>They're paid to worry. If they worry, I worry.>

Good for the world economy. It is the fears of the American public that drive the world agenda. Fear of a nuclear attack kept computer scientists busy for two decades and the internet was born.

Fear of heightened environmental risks kept the environmental job market warm for 15 years. You gave an example of low risk from depleted uranium. You should look at the amount of money that was spent in environmental compliance for risks far lower than that.

Fear of the Year 2000 bug gave a huge boost to IT spending in the late 1990s.

US public should be afraid of all mutating micoorganisms. That will drive pharamaceutical companies to higher margin products. AIDS drugs are becoming commodity.

Terrorism existed before 911. But now it is the world's only issue, to which every other priority becomes subordinate.

Keep the fear industry alive! Our economic future depends on that.
