Timing on major articles like this one is always interesting. I agree. I don't find it as conspiratorial as you, apparently, do, however. But it could easily have the kind of effect you mention.

I remain surprised by the speed with which major protest events have been organized. No doubt there are multiple reasons: intense dislike for Bush; internet as mobilizing technology (Howard Rheingold's SmartMobs stuff); a cadre of veteran organizers; bumbling diplomacy and PR by the Bush folk. But I look forward to serious analysis of how that happened. This piece is a good beginning.

I find it interesting that the people around here with the biggest axes to grind are also the biggest whiners about the NYT. The article was apparently in Saturday's paper, probably the least read paper of the week. You can always watch Fox News if you need all war cheerleading, all the time.
