I had saved my history lessons on Mr. Chalaby for another day, but nice of you to point out he has the perfect resume and character strength for the kind of person Bush would want running Iraq.

I agree that Chalabi's criminal record is troubling. This is probably the reason that the US is saying they want to start out with a military administrator until the Iraqi people can pick their own government. Chalabi is only the head of one opposition party, and they all certainly don't agree on him.

He does appear very poised and polished and is well educated, but I don't think the first leader of liberated Iraq should be a man who was sentenced to 22 years hard labor for embezzlement and bank fraud, and his explanation (jealousy) is preposterous.
