None of the Generals are wearing a CIB badge. Were these guys all cooks or did the CIB die due to PC.

Depends on what their branch was.. Franks is a former Artillery officer.. The CIB is only authorized for infantry officers and enlisted, including Green Beenies..

Tankers, cannon cockers, intelligence, and aviation folks are not eligible.. It was the military's way of trying to given the average foxhole joe some tidbit of recognition..

Highly coveted..

Here's a history on the CIB and it's requirements for being awarded:

General Franks is on this morning and he's wearing a 1st Cavalry battle unit patch plus the Airborne wings badge. None of the Generals are wearing a CIB badge. Were these guys all cooks or did the CIB die due to PC.

Franks was Artillery Branch. The CIB is only awarded to Infantry and Special Forces branches.

The wings Franks wears are aviator not airborne. He was an Army pilot too.

Many Infantrymen served in the Cav and were awarded the CIB. The Cav Artillery and aviation guys did not get the CIB.

General Brooks, the briefing officer, wears the EIB...That is the Expert Infantryman Badge. It is earned by training and testing. The CIB or Combat Infantryman Badge is earned in battle. Brooks also wears the senior Parachute badge. It is an intermediate award between novice and master parachutist.
