just for the record, I found that "former career diplomat's" email over-pessimistic. And I also see zero chance that we'd end this with his "option three"; it's going to be "option one" all the way, IMO, unless the Iraqi regime collapses first (which is still a possibility--don't rule it out). And at this point going for "option one" isn't mere pigheadedness--anything less than complete victory for the US now would be a catastrophe. So it's what I'd recommend if I were there, although the specifics of how and when you go for Baghdad would have to be determined by lots of stuff I'm not in a position to know...
