But the fact that companies are deciding to forego travel only means it's not great news for the hotels, restaurants and car rental companies and tourism combined with biz trips either and those type companies employ lots of people who buy lots of tech and non tech stuff in good times.

I'm not too up on the travel industry so maybe some here can correct me- but my feeling is that in the short term travel demand is suppressed.... in the long run we should be ok, imo. My post said the full service airlines don't work- that would be United, American etc. JetBlue is doing great and I believe southwest is still fine... its just the full fare business travelers who are cutting back (on the fares primarily and in some cases the flights) so if an airline depends on full fare travel its curtains. All this virtual meeting stuff is a double edge sword... on the one time there are fewer consultants and management travelling domestically. There has to be increased international demand for travel though when companies outsource globally. Not exactly a wash, I'm sure overall travel is less- but there are some opportunities to be had in this shift for the travel industry.

Imo this is just the natural progression of things... its too bad about United but the system is inefficient and that carrier in particular was worse than most.

not that stocks are cheap, but I think some day we'll look back and say.................. wow! Why didn't I buy more?

Probably because we are out of money!
