I wonder what the writer was saying.. Are not Canadian companies the same as U.S. companies and stock holders are those who invest, not the country of the established company?

Nortel.. millions of us invested in and lost big time in nt but who owns nt? Who owns ExxonMobil? I remember back in seventies when Kennedy was out to tax oil industry for excess profits and other additional taxes.. Mobil let congress know it would pull the corp hdqtrs from Nyc. and locat it in (rumor) England.

If GM is telling Canada the taxes are too high.. It is a warning that an independent GM will relocate to a country where they can get tax benefits and produce parts cheaper. For example Mexico.. It is not a threat to the Canada that GM wants to own a part of Canada. It is a fact to be competitive you have to reduce the tax burden you place on corp taxes... another example is the garment industry that was so great in the U.S. or the shoe industry.. or the auto industry that has been moving to Mexico also from the U.S.
Remember the 1980's when Japan was buying up all the land, buildings , businesses in United States.. Then they lost their shirts and sold off at a dime on the dollar.
I believe it is world competition today.. Corporations will move from place to place for economic reasons. if Canada becomes a high cost place to do business you will see industry leave quickly to another location..Productivity drives profits.
