The French fought the first resolution too. It was clear they were not keen on war.

There was no misunderstanding about the meaning of 1441; that in the event there was a "material breach", immediate military intervention was called for. The French agreed to it up front, then welshed on the deal.

It was sorry, and I believe the French will suffer long-term consequences as a result of their actions. American administrations will think long and hard before giving the French any role in future deals.

Next time the French strike out on one of their imperialistic jaunts I suspect the United States won't be willing to look the other way.
