Hutchison Telecom says it will offer 'true 3G services' in just two weeks, in a move clearly designed to mock Telstra's recent CDMA 1X release.

The telco said it would open 20 prime-location stores to sell its 3G handsets and services under the brand name "3", with a launch on April 15th.

Hutchison says it will offer 'true 3G services', including live person-to-person video calling and video-based consumer and business services including news and sport highlights, financial news and information and email.

Other services will include an entertainment guide, mapping service, weather, horoscopes, games and ringtones.

Handsets from NEC and Motorola will be on sale at the service launch, offering multi-media messaging of pictures and video (with audio). Both handsets will come equipped with a digital camera for still photographs and video.
