>>> Most of all, America lost her virtue. To the rest of the world, she no longer stands for Justice, for Right, for Good.

As far as the Arab world is concerned, we lost that years ago. The only way we could have kept it in their eyes would have been to have supported the Palestinians against Israel. Clinton's failure at Camp David 2 was the nail in the coffin for any hope of US virtue in Arab eyes.

I don't care about that part of the Arab world that's been obsessed with the territorial dispute over there.

I do care when the goodwill of the world toward Americans is squandered. I really don't know, and somewhat doubt, if it would have even been possible to convince the majority of the world of the well foundedness of removal of Saddam by force, though it's a job that imho needs to be done (among so many others on earth...)

It seems likely to me that the administration really did believe it would be a "cakewalk" and would have thought twice if they envisioned world wide anti-American demonstrations or other hitches.

I wonder what the chances of capturing Hussein alive are ? If that miracle comes to pass, he should be turned over to a Tribunal Pénal International so we could see if Europe and the UN are "moral" enough to pass judgement.

No, I think this war is doing something more unique and dangerous, if it goes on for a long period of times.

It has the visual imagery of destruction that is unprecedented, backed by real TV and news media that is magnifying it.

While you are correct in saying that about the policy makers of those ME countries, most of the public are simply not that exposed to the adverse consequences.

Now the people on the street will be transformed on much larger scale then they have been ever before, by the past events.IMHO

They would have complained nearly as loud had he succeeded. The Arab world considers a two state solution deeply humiliating.
