Although protestors may not have any effect on Bush, they may have effect on the person who will replace Bush. I think they also let the international community know that some Americans are responsible (at least those protestors who are responsible let them know that.) I was in the march in SF- the big one. I've never seen that many people anywhere in the world, ever. And those people weren't radicals. I think it may help the world to know that not all people in the US shun the UN. There were many signs thanking the UN, and thanking France and Germany. IMO it is good for our neighbors in the world to see that not everyone in the US is willing to tell the rest of the world to stuff it.

The protestors I met were people of conscience, but not people of the far left. The people I met weren't in PETA or ANSWER or any other orgnaization (Except for the Catholic church- there were lots of nuns and priests- in fact we marched by a church and all the nuns and priests were out with signs waving and cheering the marchers). I felt wonderful seeing those people- 1000's of them, marching peacefully, for the cause of peace. They may not change Bush's mind, but they are doing something about a cause that is important to them, and a cause I believe in. I don't think an effort like that is ever wasted. I do agree that the more extreme elements do more harm than good- but every movement has it's extremists (even the Bush movement).
