... story for you, lad ... ... during Paterno's pre-spring practice press conference yesterday ... he related a true story from the early 1970s when he was Athletic Director for a year or so (which he hated) ... he was about to hire Rene Portland as the new coach of the Lady Lions Basketball team, but she wanted more money than Joe had to offer ... so he went to the VP in Old Main and presented his case ... ... during that meeting, he told the VP that with Rene as coach, Rec Hall (the basketball facility at the time) would be full with 10,000 people per game (which, of course, actually happened) ... ... the VP told Paterno, "If that happens, I will kiss your ass at center court." ... ... Joe said yesterday, "I am still waiting!"
