Good write-up, Nightowl It is the top leadership which determines which way the future winds of war blow. To have peace,or at least, fewer wars, requires international law, and much better ones than at present , as Nadine mentioned. Clear laws, with no double talk, or interpretations required, and specified penalties with enforcement Very difficult job, especially since many Muslims, at least the dissidents, can claim a Jihad as a valid case for a war by any method against any enemy. That would be their "Law" and unacceptable in the Western world., and would require that International law would over-ride religious interpretations. A start has been made on the new Rules in the West, by the UN, by Nato, by the EU, but the East or the Arab Nations are disorganized ? and wars are so prevalent that would have real problems agreeing to any universal rules or laws applied just to their own Regions, much less being compatible with Western Rules. This unfortunate War will demonstrate that sheer human sacrifice, as practiced by N Koreas 6mm man army and by Saddam Hussein can no longer win wars, as it did one time In Vietnam New Technology in the West as being demonstrated now will prove that we can sit back out of range and decimate enemy forces wilh little harm to civilians. This forces the enemy to go underground using Terrorist tactics which have become more common. and will cost us dearly in developing a Homeland Defense Those who want peace in the World must somehow present and implement a plan that will mesh the desires of the Eastern World to the desires of the Western World which then must exclude the Jihads called for by the ME religious groups . Since it will be cold day in H--- before that happens, our best efforts for peace in the interim are applied to convincing the ME rulers, and even others, to clamp down on Terrorists or Terrorism or they will face an unstoppable force and defeat and even lose their leaders if they refuse to abide by universal rules of humane treatment of citizens or prisoners Sig @mustbehopesomewhere.com
