Two lessons of vietnam are contradictory.
1. Dont fight a nationalist/guerilla war where people are against you--jury still out on that both nationally, regionally and ethnically within iraq.
2. Once in, must win. Dont fight it with one hand tied behind your back. This is the lesson the bush folks wont forget. It was the downfall of LBJ. Some general said today that if it takes high casualties to dislodge the rev guard, so be it. Better than 10 years, and 58,000 dead i think. mike

What's beginning to amaze me is how the world just stood idly by and allowed the Allies to win that war.

I think it would be much different today.
