"Who was in a position to challenge Russia, except the United States?"

And who in the mideast was in a position to challenge saddam(1991, 2003) except the US? And who in europe had the will to do so? Without the US, kuwait would have disappeared in 91 and god knows what would have happened after that. In 2003 without american troops stationed, saddam would have built up his assets for a strike in a year or so. He would never have believed and may have been right that the US would risk a bio attack in chicago or a dirty bomb in NY for kuwait redux. mike
