A switch to the Euro... I dont see it coming. I see the eurasian tectonic plate gravitate towards euro, OK. But otherwise, any changes would be accompanied (or caused by) shifts in other visible attributes of US dominance.

The advantages gained by being the reserve currency is hard to quantify, but it is very considerable. The US is able to print trillions of dollars... I'd term that an opportunistic disease ("I sneeze, cause I got cold feet"). There's a lot of other advantages ("Gimme three, DJ! Trust, trust, and ... er ... petrodollars") before one quotes the printing press as an advantage. For whom? It's (nearly) a zero-sum game.
