Those signals, however, were tempered by continued resistance by forces loyal to Saddam Hussein,

If by some miracle we manage to eliminate Saddam (and his son...) it's at that point that there would be a better chance of winning this mess. I don't know what the history of armies fighting when a highly centralized leader has been eliminated is, but the structure of the so called Republican Guard leads one to believe it's a brittle top down organization.

Actually locating him would seem to be like finding a needle in a haystack though.

I just heard on the French radio I monitor this AM that there are again traffic jams in Baghdad, people have decided to go about their business. I don't know, if they were bombing strategic targets around Boston, that would suffice to keep me out of the city !

If true, this will frost the tootsies of all those Arabs around the world who are claming we're there to conquer, not liberate.

<<One senior U.S. Central Command official said late Monday that he sensed the "tipping point" when Iraqis would turn against the regime entirely - was near in Basra and Nasiriyah. >>>
They will roll over like a top-heavy boat when point of equilibrium is passed
When citizens of those overtaken towns get on the phone or radio and talk to their relatives in Baghdad Saddams sad story of lies and false victories will create an angry backlash
