There is something to what you say. But I think there is anti-Americanism and then there is anti-Americanism. Yes many Canadians get to feel bigger if they can have a laugh at US' expense. But there are many who want to be more like America than what Canada is like today. Imitation being the sincerest form of love and flattery, I don't buy into the Canadians being anti-American on the whole. More to the point, I am still to meet a Canadian who has genuine ill-will towards Americans. Quite to the contrary, there were some Canadian firemen, police, and rescue crew who after 9/11 took time off work to drove to NYC to help. I think too many Americans fail to see the various shades of gray when it comes to "anti-Americanism".

In the Canadian case he said the typical American's ignorance of all things Canadian was what infuriated.

Thank you John Cavanaugh.......your post shed some light.

IMO it would be in everyone's best interest to help each other out of their ignorance through education, and by being up front (without insults).......rather than continuing to be infuriated........BWTHDIK?

Because my neighbor is young and unable to express himself thoroughly, I thought I might be able to get a sense of what is going on with my neighbors to the north here on this thread.

I certainly did.

Again........my thanks.

<<In the Kiwi case they are often incensed at the constant jokes Aussies make at there expense. In the Canadian case he said the typical American's ignorance of all things Canadian was what infuriated.>>>
Reminds me my mother's mother was a Canadian, although I have never been there. So my mental picture of Canada is from ancient times. The mighty Canadian Pacific Railway, rolling wheat fields, wild animals, mountains and snow.
All to be mighty proud of so I hope you have a system where Provinces are represented well in government as States are here. City folks with limited vision can make a mess of things by passing laws that can stop
progress or prevent the best use of resources in outlying areas. They also are more inclined to be jealous of the so-called advantages that the US has, rather than concentrating on the advantages they have ( no need to live in Los Angeles for example) and building showcases or mighty industries Canada is capable of, like your water power and electric systems, parks, resorts, and many more not yet contemplated
