Time for your trip to NZ. siliconinvestor.com <...Air Canada said Tuesday it was filing for bankruptcy protection from creditors, seeking time to reorganize its business and negotiate concessions from unions and help from the government.... > American Airlines in trouble [and a lot more besides]. This is a bit like the telecommunications industry, which has been, and is still, overcharging for their services. When they have acclimatized to reality, we'll be able to enjoy telecommunications and cyberspace services, in comfortable air travel at sensible prices. Return fares to London from Auckland [as far as it's possible to go] are as low as NZ$1700 = US$800. I'll have to go for some rides just because it's so cheap - though Homeland Security gives me pause. The idiots will mistake me for an alien terrorist, give me body cavity searches, hold me prisoner for days or weeks, making me miss flights and lose money. Maybe the airfares aren't so cheap when the cost of Homeland Security is taken into account. Also, the normally witless aircrew would be intolerable - seeing danger in every slightly eccentric move or comment, calling for fighter jets to accompany me to Guantanamo Bay from where I'll never been heard again. Which some might say would be no bad thing. Airfares are going to have to get cheaper still to make Guantanamo Bay and body cavity searches attractive. It seems that Osama won. I hasten to add that that is NOT a terrorist comment and I am NOT a terrorist and do NOT want to bring down the USA, so any Homeland Security people reading this, please go and hassle somebody else.
