Searle: <Buy yourself this book: "Obedience to authority" by Stanley Milgram...this was a seminal read in my life.>

Ohhh, that Stanley Milgram. Important enough to have a dedicated presence on the web (http://www.stanleymilgram.com) but not famous enough to have his name stolen and held hostage as the domain name for a porno website.

Interestingly enough, the site is maintained by a professor at a university (which i attended) located 5 miles from my home. Talk about 6 degrees of separation (Milgram's career also produced many other creative, though less controversial, experiments; such as, the small-world method (the source of "Six Degrees of Separation")). Stanley would be pleased - but not surprised.

I've not read the book but am aware of the experiments. But do I really want any more insight into the dark side of humanity?

re: seminal reads Are you familiar with 'The Selfish Gene' by Richard Dawkins? Interesting stuff. And it will help dispel any lingering doubts you may have regarding 'free will' in human beings. Also includes a nice little scientific 'creation myth' describing the origin of life.
