I have read fairly extensively on this subject and from what I can see there was optimism among the women at first, but it soon faded and whereas things are not the same as they were under the Taliban they are still terrible for women. There are few reporters left there now and we're going to have to wait for documentary fimmakers to get to the truth. And who watches documentaries anyway It seems that the western puppet President only controls Kabul or parts of it - he can't go anwhere without American bodyguards. The rest of the country is back in the hands of the warlords who ruled pre-Taliban, and the poppy and heroin trade is in full flower again. Progress in your mind? A mixed bag in mine. But believe what you want.
