In December 2002, Kerry Flip-Flopped. NBC's Tim Russert: "Senator . . . should we freeze or roll back the Bush tax cut?" Kerry: "Well, I wouldn't take away from people who've already been given their tax cut . . . . What I would not do is give any new Bush tax cuts. . . ." Russert: "So the tax cut that's scheduled to be implemented in the coming years . . . ." Kerry: "No new tax cut under the Bush plan. . . . It doesn't make economic sense." Russert: "Now, this is a change, because let me show you what you said in September of 2001 when I asked you the very same question." (NBC's "Meet The Press," December 1, 2002)

In April 2002, Kerry Said He Wanted A Larger Tax Cut And Was "Not In Favor Of" A Repeal. CNN's Tucker Carlson: "Senator Kerry, . . . [many Democrats] get a lot of political mileage out of criticizing [President Bush's tax cut], but nobody has the courage to say repeal it. Are you for repealing it?" Kerry: "It's not a question of courage. . . . And it's not an issue right now. We passed appropriately a tax cut as a stimulus, some $40 billion. Many of us thought it should have even maybe been a little bit larger this last year . . . The next tax cut doesn't take effect until 2004. If we can grow the economy enough between now and then, if we have sensible policies in place and make good choices, who knows what our choices will be. So it's simply not a ripe issue right now. And I'm not in favor of turning around today and repealing it." (CNN's "Crossfire," April 16, 2002)

Pork Barrel Training in Massachusetts

The Berkshire County Regional Employment Board Inc. announced that they completed their training program that uses part of the $1,000 dollar fee collected from each H-1B visa. This training is supposed to help displaced Americans find jobs once they are armed with new skills.

Commonwealth Corporation Project Manager, Alan Marden was very proud that every penny of their $2,003,164 allotment from the H-1B training fund was spent. They also spent $784,246 donated by General Dynamics. The crowd he talked too broke out into laughter when he said that they managed to spend every cent, but the the real joke was that only three people got jobs after their training. In other words, each job cost almost 1 million dollars. Now that's something to laugh about!

Their "success" involved training 2,359 people for 28,387 hours of instruction. That means that each person got about 12 hours of training. Are we supposed to believe that some unemployed techies armed with 12 hours of training are going to take jobs back from H-1Bs? It seems that the only ones getting rich from the training fees are the schools that manage to get millions of dollars from the federal government. The stench of scandal gets worse if you consider who is thanked for doling out the pork: Sens. John F. Kerry and Edward M. Kennedy.
