I think the irritation, on the part of some of the Iraqi expats I've heard interviewed, with the "Arab Street" for it's noisy support of Saddam given what they've suffered at his hands speaks volumes. It's by no means a universal sentiment, but there are certainly people who see this invasion as the lesser of evils, and who aren't going to stupidly foam at the mouth. That was done when we went into Afghanistan, but we don't hear much about it any more.

I still think that regime is likely to crumble if the leaders are taken out (which might not be easy, I don't know.) If we can pull through on this, the best thing the US can possibly do is disprove people who see yet another power grab that'll put in a murderous dictator to replace the previous one, leaving a royal mess behind.

Will we be able to do that ? It's work that will last beyond this presidential administration...

On this subject of what the rest of the world thinks... I just heard that some French politicians have begun calling for toning down the anti-American rhetoric a bit. Seems that enough Americans have cancelled summer visits that they already fear a significant fall off in tourism business !!

A friend who ordered tickets on his frequent flyer miles early March confirmed this. He had a little difficulty getting a flight synchronized with his available vacation slot, but on checking yesterday there are now plenty of flights and vacancies !

ROFL !!
