It says something that Savidge is so overwhelmed by the caliber of these young men. Sounds like he hasn't met any like them before. Or perhaps he wasn't expecting them to be found in our armed services. Not too surprising when you have politicians and academics assuming that the only people in the armed services are those who haven't any other opportunities and have nothing else they can do.

In today's WSJ OpinionJournal is a piece by a Harvard professor who is a very rare breed: she's the parent of a soldier who's also a Harvard grad. None of their friends or acquaintance knows anyone with a child in the military.
