While a judge should be benevolent in purpose, his awards should cause the criminal to suffer, else there is no punishment [Starship Troopers] One wonders how he'd feel about the Arab idea of the amputation of a hand, for theft. Or maybe not wonder... Citizen of the Galaxy covers that one with some glee. The priests would just have to join the military, and preach the gospel of war...
