Iceland has a literacy rate of almost 100% and has accomplished practically zero as a nation. Literacy is great but a capitalist society requires initiative and forward motion not the imposition of ideas on people who can merely read and write.

Democracy will not be imposed if the voices of the Iraqi dissidents, ex-patriots and government in exile have anything to say about it. It is what they want and what they have articulated in unambiguous terms.

Many say that the Iraqi's and that Arabs in general are incapable of democracy. I view this as racist and do not ascribe to this view.

And I would argue that access to information is much more critical to democracy than literacy, but that is a meta discussion in itself.
