"Yes , but not to digress too much the Gospels are one thing , and claiming direct lineage to God is another "

Actually the Gospels and the claim that Jesus is the divine son of God are the same. The Gospels are simply the empirical eyewitness historical data confirming the divinity of Jesus by focusing on his birth, life, words, actions, Crucifixion and Resurrection. The Gospels contain the words of simple, sincere and sober men recording what they saw, heard and touched. It is from these solid historical records of Jesus' life that faith (trust) in his divine mission and saving power is established. Faith/trust in Jesus is based upon solid objective historical reality.
