Xilinx tops FPGA rankings in terrible '02, says Dataquest

SAN JOSE -- It was a horrific year for suppliers of FPGAs and PLDs in 2002.

Nearly every supplier lost ground amid the IC downturn, although Xilinx Inc. remained the top vendor in the arena, with $1.124 billion in sales in 2002, down 2.2 percent over 2001, according to new rankings from Dataquest Inc. of San Jose.

Altera Corp. remained in second place with $839 million in sales for 2002, down 15.1 percent over 2001, according to Dataquest. Xilinx had a 49.1 percent share of the FPGA/PLD market in 2002, while rival Altera had 31.1 percent, according to Dataquest.

Rounding out the top seven in the arena were Lattice, Actel, Cypress, QuickLogic, and Atmel.
