Jeez, Liz - a month old poll? I bet you can find one from around the same time that said Tony Blair would be facing a no-confidence vote if he went to war without the UN. Don't you know that public sentiment here (and in England, too) has swung decidedly in favor of the war since the first missiles were fired at Saddam's fat arse? Come on Liz, try to keep up. America gets it and supports Bush - well all except the whiners in Silly Valley and Hollywood. And perhaps a few Starbucks-crazed tour guides and professional protestors.

Report: Iraq torture chamber found

ABU AL KHASIB, Iraq (CNN) --A torture chamber equipped with hooks hanging from ceilings and an on-site electrocution room has been found in the basement of an Iraqi police station, an embedded reporter with the BBC reports.

The reporter said the British Royal Marines from Alpha Company 40 Commando entered the facility -- home to Saddam Hussein's dreaded internal security police -- looking for clues about local militia groups.

Weapons, maps and other documents were found in the raid in the town of Abu Al Khasib, the BBC reporter said Wednesday. But it was downstairs where they found the torture chamber.

One room was completely bare, except for two tires and an electric cable, the BBC reporter said.

He said he was told that an interrogator would use the tires to stand on, while water was poured into the room and the prisoner electrocuted.

Other rooms had hooks hanging from the ceiling, while another 1.2 meter by 2.4 meter (4 foot by 8 foot) cell was equipped with just a pillow and mattress.

The reporter said he interviewed one man, who did not want to be identified, who said prisoners were blindfolded, tied up, hung on the hooks and then beaten.

The man also said a citizen who committed a crime could avoid being tortured by putting up cash -- about $1,600 for stealing, and almost twice that for murder, according to the BBC reporter.

So you think they'll back "i don't stand for anything except a tv camera" Kerry?

Have you ever heard of John Kerry? So why do you like him?

I'll say this much- he's raised a lot more money from the big power brokers than anyone else in the Dem party - and that's what counts - money - especially in the Dem party.

So why do you like him?

Your data are a month old. Stale.

Yet as you may know, Kery just missed another key senate vote, the partial birth abortion vote. He was too sick to make it to the senate floor. So a few days later he shows up in Aspen skiing. LOL !

a little r&r i guess? With the rich beautiful people, of course...

Kery hates to vote. How many votes has kery missed in the last couple of yrs? Do you know? I do. he's 'my senator.'

Even though i am not a $800 million heiress to a ketchup fortune, he's 'my senator.' Yep. But he never votes. Maybe.

What are we paying this clown? $140k big ones? Plus the non-SS retirment plan ? For what? To go spring skiing in Aspen apparently.

Lizzie, John Kerry used to go down the old Elliott Lounge at the corner of Massachusetts Ave and Commonwealth in Boston all the time and get so $hit-faced he couldn't see crossed-eyed, never mind straight.

And he's the Dem's next nominee for pres.

And he misses all the key senate votes. He just missed the one on partial birth abortion. He was healthy enough to go to the St Patrick's Day brunch in S Boston on March 17th, after he sadi he wouldn't because all these years he's been lying about being irish... yet he couldn't make the senate vote on P-B abortions, not feeling well; he was on his way to a ski date in Aspen.

What a friggin phoney. But he's the rich Dem's phoney. And that's good enough. He's the boy.

from your beloved cnn -

Karl: Democratic presidential contenders miss votes

WASHINGTON (CNN) --There's some griping by Democrats on Capitol Hill about some of their own members -- namely two senators running for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination. Sens. John Kerry of Massachusetts and John Edwards of North Carolina missed votes Thursday. Congressional Correspondent Jonathan Karl spoke with CNN's Judy Woodruff about the Hill rumblings.

WOODRUFF: The Democratic presidential race already having an effect up there?

KARL: It sure looks that way. And this may not be the last time we report a story like this, but it is the first.

And that is, there have been two very interesting absences today in the Senate. As the Democrats have been going through a series of votes trying to increase spending on homeland security and on education, John Edwards and John Kerry, both of whom are running for president, have not been here for these votes. And these are votes that Democrats have cast as very important votes, critical votes, that talk about the central priorities of the country. And both John Kerry and John Edwards have not been here, causing some real frustration on the part of Democratic aides. And these are very important votes from the perspective of Tom Daschle.

Listen to him from earlier today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TOM DASCHLE, MINORITY LEADER: What you want to do is send as clear as message as we can that we're willing to commit the resources of this country to carry the rhetoric that we've heard so often on the floor of the Senate and in every one of these State of the Union messages. We've got to match our commitment in resources to the rhetoric we hear from our leaders. That's what you're doing.

KARL: Now, there Tom Daschle was aiming his fire at the Republicans. But, privately, senior Democratic aides are aiming some fire at John Kerry and John Edwards and warning, as one person said: This is a harbinger of things to come. We are facing critical votes and these guys are off campaigning for president.

Now, as far as what John Edwards and John Kerry are saying, John Edwards' office has no comment on this and, in fact, could not tell us where he is, except to say that he's in the South. John Kerry is up in Boston. His spokesperson for his campaign said that John Kerry has a long record of loyalty to the Democratic caucus, and when there are critical votes, they will be here.

Now, Judy, two important points on this: One, the votes that have taken place so far today, the Democrats would have lost even if Kerry and Edwards were here. But there is a critical vote coming tonight on education funding that could be quite close, where those votes could be critical.

And the second thing is that those are not the only two people that are missing. There are two others that have been not here, Chuck Hagel, Republican of Nebraska, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, neither of whom are, however, running for president.
