>> You are right though as people on this this thread would just ignore me for things they don't have answer or don't want to answer :-)

No it's not that at all. But just how many times can one say "Gee, Gary, you're absolutely right. That is exactly how I feel."

I see that the discussion threads, and probably the people of this country and others can be differentiated into camp 1: "Lets treat others as we wish them to treat us". and camp 2: "We'll conquer them if we like, and if they dare to defend themselves we'll bomb them till they give up or die".

Various empires have tried #2. It seems to be a niche that someone always aspires to fill.

<Oregon is drafting a bill that anti-war demonstrators can be classified as 'terrorist'>

Have a link?

Yes, plenty of people are trying to establish that "anti-war" = traitor = terrorist.

I'd be surprised at Oregon leading the rehabilitation of McCarthy's methods. It's about the most liberal State, except for Massachussetts. IMO, the McCarythites will be able to continue going after non-Americans, and ethnic Asians/Africans, and Muslims. Most Americans will think of those groups as Other, and see no threat to themselves.

But, if you look at the people who have participated in anti-war protests in the U.S., there have been such protests in every American city, many towns, some protests in the 100,000s. And the people in those protests, look exactly like the people in the prowar demonstrations. The government will fail, in defining them as Other. Besides, those people have money, organizational ability, lots of friends. If they try that, they are just going to anger a lot of people, lose fence-sitters, and harden opposition.
