Sorry if you took it differently than it was meant. Oh, I couldn't disagree more with the rest of your reply too. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. The USA should not be held to a different standard than any other country or terrorist organization. And when a country or group decides to play dirty, threaten or attack the US or its' interests, then we have every right to react with force when diplomacy, tolerance, understanding & diplomacy fails. "it was the lack of ignorance of the west that was bothering Bin Luddite. He correctly saw that western culture was quite seductive to Muslim youth." His response to what he conjured in his mind is now reaping its' consequences. Perhaps he should have tried tolerance, understanding & diplomacy ad nauseam. He is not a victim, nor are his followers. They are thugs, murderers & evil terrorists. His violence is being reciprocated fairly & justly. "I'm sure you know there is considerable worldwide doubt about just how peaceful we are." Well, considering the morals & ethics of France, Germany, Russia, Syria, etc., etc., I'm not overly concerned about their biased, immoral, unethical POV. You can spin history any way you wish. The fact is that the US is mostly peace loving & has an aversion to conflict/war. However, when there is not a viable alternative, the US will defend itself or those who cannot defend themselves from other unjust aggressors. No we aren't perfect. There is no way we are the great satan that folks have portrayed this country on this thread, that's for damn sure.

Well said. It seems simple to me. I've spent time in many developing countries; Egypt, Sudan, India (Kashmir) the Muslim ones among them. It doesn't matter if you sit inside the borders of this country and think we are peace loving. Those people do not think so. They see the material wealth we have. They see the violent movies Hollywood cranks out. They see the exploitative way we portray women/sex. They see the damage done to the environment by companies based in the West. And, because they aren't pacified by driving to the Mosque in a big, comfy vehicle, because their electricity goes on and off intermittently, because they don't have a nice, manicured golf course or yard to relax in, because their sons and daughters scramble for the same prospects of 2 dollar a day jobs they've had and their fathers had, because they read about the US acting with violence (overtly or covertly) to many countries (Cuba, Vietnam, Granada, Panama, Iraq, Somalia, Kosovo, Iraq, etc.) that do something our leaders don't like....they are kind of pissed at us. Spend some time among that HALF of the world rather than in front of a TV. (I know you know this.) The US has many virtues. But we certainly have room for improvement.
