I would have had somewhat more reservation in arguing against the war if these had been stated up front, and even properly debated... although I agree with the neocons <gg> that such would be politically impossible.

But agreed, that's exactly the assessment that makes sense, and the hypocrisy and irrelevance of the other arguments did very much to turn me against the war at the outset.
This at least wins for honesty. Additionally, because the real issue is being logically and rationally discussed, it can be judged on merits and the - to me - rather greater drawbacks, instead of being obscured by blather about faith and morals, or jingoistic rantings about traitors.

Not that I expect one honest man to make a difference, and civil liberties and society in the US still look like being the biggest losers (bar Saddam, that is)...
