A happy story to brighten your day....<s>

Today, the Iraqi intentions remain a mystery to those now in charge of an oil field that contains an estimated 14 percent of the world's reserves. Even the modest fires still going are burning up about $500,000 worth of oil a day, according to Krause. "We feel we were very successful in preventing major damage," Timmermans said.

Behind him, firefighters from the Kuwait Oil Co. were preparing to try to cap off one of the remaining two fires. That, too, was unexpected. The United States had already contracted with Boots and Coots to do the job before the war began -- overall, the U.S. government has already handed out about $100 million for work in these fields -- but while the company waited for equipment and security clearance to come to the war zone, the Kuwaiti government moved in volunteers of its own.

Hard to tell what the final bill will be from Boots and Coots ....termination costs.
