It does look like the actions of a government that has lost control, doesn't it. Leads to more serious speculation about Saddam's fate. But, best to remember Mike's words of caution.

One thing you learn in listening to what Iraqi expatriates have to say is that the Republican Guard controls only certain sectors of Baghdad, and normal Iraqis can't set foot in those areas. This might be the same in other cities. This reinforced my belief that the regime may be spread kind of thin in reality. It's not like North Korea for example, where the military seems to be everything.

The recently linked maps on the spaceimaging.com site are interesting in bringing home the scale of things, and the localized nature of the air strikes so far.

Nothing they can do that we don't know. WMD? We expect it. However, I they don't have any arty left to deliver it, and the guys running things don't want to walk a scaffold for it.
The only other thing is Fedayeen, and we expect that. They have been warning about having them in Baghdad for months. The rabble they have imported from other countries will be blown away. Makes it easier to kill them now rather than one by one later. It is 9:30 PM. Twelve hours from now we should know how much resistance in Baghdad we are going to get.

Remember, we have SF guys in the City now, checking things out on the ground.
