when denial confronts illiteracy, delusion results
some wise man once wrote that

George, seriously, we are witnessing the fall of the american empire
it was built on the sand of debt and the machines of war, culminating with the coercion of trade surplus recycle to finance our debt
the strong dollar killed us, gutting our engines of wealth
we conned the world into giving us their savings
now we will suffer the consequences as we watch the ebb follow such a dangerous flow

do you really believe 9 of 10 americans would calmly admit that their past 30 years of work was in vain, that the entire banking and federal system has bankrupted the economy, that our strong dollar has destroyed our wealth engines ???

no, Japan didnt and cannot admit it, and neither can we
our pride is far too vast
I once heard an eastern adage, but I will not get it exact

"the greatest deceptions come after refusing to admit failures"

my father (age 83) is one smart sumbitch, retired university literature professor
he listens to me patiently, and understands 40-50%
last January I asked him what three thing threaten the US financially
he said
1. federal debt
2. debts of individuals
3. dunno

I said #3 might be strong dollar with no gold backing
he nodded yes, since he lived thru the Great Depression

anyway, Dad asked me after my Delusions article (which he proofed for me) if I would write an article about what America should do to fix things
I laughed and explained that when errors of this awesome magnitude are made, the lion's effort then follows to support the system, not start over
he understood, but wondered what positive steps
I rattled off a few
1. allow for 20 million personal bankruptcies with tax benefits and promises of future credit
2. reneging on US federal debt to foreigners
3. eradication of 50% of the socialist safety nets
4. finance the US Military with UN funds, shared worldwide
5. eliminate all lobbyists in WashDC
6. a gold-backed dollar, or gold & silver combo like in 19th Century
7. elimination of the Federal Reserve function oversight of banks
8. elimination of IMF which takes weak economies and destroys them
9. criminal prosecution of Rubin and 100 of his closest friends
10. tolerating 20% unemployment and vast homelessness

then I asked him, DO YOU THINK EVEN ONE STEP WOULD BE ENACTED?
HE SAID "NO WAY, I SEE WHAT YOU MEAN"

having him proof my work is a passive attempt to get him to understand more
just possibly, he will put part of his considerable estate in gold

we need to look to England in the first 20th Century decade
they denied the sunset on their empire
yesterday, I read a parallel with England and Boor War
this is our Boor War
empires DO NOT go quietly into the night
they lash out, desperately engage in final last gasps, then flicker out
very sad that we must watch it and live thru it

I remain, A Crazy Jackass
