Several reports of Republican Guards changing into civilian clothes - lots of abandoned uniforms. My guess is they are going home to protect their families, or become part of a guerilla unit. They will see which way the wind blows and try to survive.

In spite of the talk about a ring around Baghdad I think many escape routes have been left open intentionally.
I expect U.S. forces will allow some time for people to flee.
