After the War

As you know, I've been saying for some time that the formulation of the occupation would be a "tell". We know the neo-cons were powerful enough to get the war that they wanted. They certainly have plans for post war Iraq. But the failure of "being welcomed with rice and flowers", and Perel's resignation may point to a decline in influence. Hence, the "tell".

The US engineered Karzai govmnt is a joke. He requires 200 american bodyguards because the people of Afganistan love him to death. Afganistan has reverted to lawless warlordism everywhere outside Kabul (and even inside, by some reports). Given american attention to Iraq, and our short attention spans, it is not widely known or reported that as spring thaws the country out, fighting is ramping back up. Our dear friends the Pakistanis are helping especially Taliban forces who were wintering in relative comfort over the border.
