We must think, beyond the confines of what has been reported to us.<< Indian-Pakistan relationship improving may have a lot to do with securing of energy supply from Iran to India. Because of the US sanction to Iran, the British company withdrew from the possible deep-sea pipeline which would circumvent Pakistan, so now the land route of the pipeline seems the only choice for India. "Islamabad, May 27, IRNA -- Pakistan said on Tuesday that recent moves by Pakistani and Indian leaders toward resuming dialogue would remove New Delhi's concern over the security of the multi-billion Iran-Pak-India gas pipeline project. "I hope that now when the talks are set to begin with India, the project would be definitely on the agenda," Petroleum Minister Naurez Shakoor told reporters in Islamabad. He admitted that India has reservations about the security of the proposed 2,500-km pipeline from Iran, but added, "now the situation is improving." Energy experts believe the gas pipeline project could help end hostility between India and Pakistan. The pipeline from Iran to India via Pakistan could help New Delhi meet its energy needs, bring Islamabad juicy transit fees and prod the poverty-stricken South Asian neighbors to transfer resources from defense to development. "Pakistan has no objection to expanding the pipeline up to India," Shakoor said, and renewed Islamabad's commitment to securing the pipeline. Pakistan and Iran have both expressed keenness on the project. However, India has had some reservations on the land route of the pipeline which was to pass through Pakistan. India has also considered the costlier option of a deep-sea pipeline that would circumvent Pakistan, a country with which it has gone to war three times since gaining independence from Britain in 1947."irna.ir
