Ron, Same reason germans welcomed hitler after weimar. Replaced a bad dude or a failed regime with a worse dude and or a worse regime. Do you put Karzai in the same group and if as DOD seems intent on doing, the iraqi exiles take interim contol, is that bad too? Nobody claims US policy during the Cold War was perfect, particularly as it relates to the leaders you mention, but past failures do not preclude future success. Americans tend to learn from their mistakes. And so do iranians i suspect when they give the clerics the boot. Mike
