It's not that they're powerless to do anything about it. It's more that they just don't give a rats ass. They and their kind have made their keep in life and are doing their best to hold onto to it and screw everyone else. When 700,000 jobs are lost; those job losses don't effect the wealthy elites that the Republicans really represent.
