They are looking for a hole to crawl into" You are doing an excellent job of encouraging this dead end attitude that will lead them further into desperation. If you cared about these people you would offer encouragement and support, instead of offering the crutch of hatred and blame to explain their situations. That is why I sometimes compare the demo party to the OBL's of the world. Because that is EXACTLY the tactic they use to encourage resentment and hatred. I'll acknowledge that they go further than you, but the damage is still being done nonetheless.
