but I think Powell was referring to Europe , N Africa and the Pacific primarily and relative to the deep threats to what was mostly an isolationist America during those times , the sacrifice of many soldier's blood and courage created those parcels post-conflict for future war's deterrence

Well, of course he was.....perfectly obvious to all but fat assed liberals who like to use any old stick to beat this Administration....

Sadly, though, no matter how good the reasons are which you have for justifying Powell's statement, it was, in the final analysis, untrue. It was said for emotional appeal, and it was very good as an emotional statement. This does not make it true. The taming of the world has nothing to do with the veracity of the statement- you realize that, right? I agree with you about the taming of the world- but I agree with me about the veracity of the statement.

deterrence is a concept I completely understand- but, again, it has nothing to do with what I was talking about. If you would like to clearly change the topic to something else, I will be happy to do that- but some people on this thread may be confused by your segue, which appears to run several diverse issues together.
