To a realist, there are times when pessimism is in order and times when optimism is. All those worst case scenarios were not among my fears. I weighed and rejected most of them; only two held merit to me.

But you named things that mostly have to do with US vs. Iraq military capabilities. That was never a point of my contention.

The two with merit is that urban fighting is likely to be bloodier than anything this nation's seen in thirty years... and the assessment of further terrorist attacks on our soil being provoked by this war remains a valid concern, imo.

I do not tend towards pessimism. I weigh strengths and weaknesses, am generally non-partisan, have been pretty accurate since I turned thirty, and don't get particularly defensive about the times I'm wrong. (I'm far more likely to be wrong in personal judgments than political ones; those are perfect qualifications to be a bachelor and a campaign manager, right?)

I've been reading the pessimistic view here for months.

Michaeal,

You don't get it. 2Stupid+2Christian will blow it with their next challenge, not this challenge. He got lucky because [insert dismissive comment here] with this challenge.

Micheal, it's all in the script, don't you read the script?

Paul

Just for the record, my prediction on the conduct of the war, made quite a few times, was extremely optimistic. As I've said many times, I have great confidence in the capabilities of our military. I have considerably less confidence in our ability to handle the postwar requirements.
