That look at arms suppliers may be an accurate overall view but it remains misleading as it does not take into account shorter term developments.

From 73 to 89, there was this Cold War yin-yang happening. After 1979's Iranian revolution, our interests changed, especially one the Iraq-Iran war began.

I'd like to see the 1982-1991 numbers and the 1992-2002 numbers broken out from that overall set. I suspect better conclusions could be reached after viewing short term numbers reflecting policy shifts.
