The 3rd Mechanized Infantry division was shown slicing through Baghdad, firing on the dead run (a practice first invented by American armored cavalry during WWII). The enemy's nuttiest fanatics tried to stand in their way, and drive light vehicles into their columns, and were destroyed without so much as a reduction in speed. As the sun went down, the 3rd's regiment returned to the airport, no doubt to be relieved with the division's "night shift", who will perform the same operation down another route.

The lethal message is that it's over in Baghdad from the conventional sense, and only suicidal terrorist tactics will have even a slim chance of partial effectiveness. The "squirrel hunt" is coming to Baghdad, not the WWII street fighting that the NY and LA Times have pinned their hopes on. And the people of that city will no doubt offer their assistance-if only to speed up the food relief shipments as they get hungrier.

Old adage: "The greatest of human empires is always only three missed meals away from revolution."...
