I haven't read the article you posted so I thought may be that is who they are talking about. BTW, I am not a socialist by any stretch of imagination. So I don't consider socialist sources to be anymore reliable than neocon sources. Anyway, Kassim (Ghasem, Qasim, whatever spelling you like) was in charge of Iraq before Baath party took over. From what I have learned most Iraqis came to appreciate him way too late. Among other things, he put in motion rules that would pay for university education of top students in any country of their choice. He also worked on nationalizing oil and I think was one of the founders of OPEC. All in all, he could have been considered a communist to McCarthy's friends.
