Nadine, it wouldn't surprise me if the 911 attack and other threats are seen as so serious that something just has to be done. Just bumbling on with an international shambles isn't very clever. The USA isn't tough enough to boss everyone on earth around. Bossy people tend to get a few little problems from the underlings. Better to hand external issues off to the UN.

Herding 6 billion people [who seem to be a weird mix of sheep and cat] is too difficult for 300 million Americans, most of whom wouldn't know where Canada is, let alone Syria and would have even less idea about other globally important issues such as radio spectrum rights in Auckland.

As a psuedo-neocon of the Canadian strain, I don't see this as a bad thing at all. It will depend of the nature of the reforms. I think the neocons will be happy if the reforms allow American military power to be an effective deterrant in the world. I think many nations in the world might agree to that in order to make the use of American power be less ad hoc. Of couse, as the global cop, the US might want to the only veto. Interesting fact, for close allies: the USA, England, Spain and Japan account for 49% of the UN's budget.

The other day someone said I am pro-American. While true, it is more accurate to say I am pro-Sherrif. Go Sheriff Go. Kick some bad guy butt. The most peaceful towns are the ones with the most effective sherrif.
