Skinowski, you are wrong. <American guys and NZ guys both come from societies where people don't casually shoot women and children. They just don't do it. Let's see, have you heard of O J Simpson who is going to find the real killer any day now? What was the name of that girl in San Diego abducted and killed in the dead of night? No, not that one, the other one. Who was the Kennedy nephew with the golf club? No, not the one charged with rape, the other one. Do parents leave their little darling children to wander off to school by themselves? Career prospects for a lot of people are not all that great and the army has traditionally provided a place for some of the more wayward males to end up. The prospect of shooting guns at people might be enticement too. Who were those snipers in Washington recently? In NZ we have similar mayhem with women and children being tortured, and killed by bat, fist, knife, gun, burning car, and all sorts of ways. Sure, most soldiers are good blokes. And con men are good at looking good. They mix in very well. Even some USA soldiers have killed their wives recently in jealous fits or for other reasons. I guess the wives deserved it and that wasn't stupid brutality. But the wives can't give their opinions. Males by the thousand have got bad eggs among them. Armed and in opportunistic situations, they will manifest their malevolence. The military does NOT filter them out. The military specifically requires males who will kill to order. Sometimes without order. There was a US pilot who contrary to instructions killed some Canadians in Afghanistan - he didn't mean to kill Canadians of course, but he was really keen to ignore the bureaucracy and fire away. It doesn't take a lot of criminals to make news. Similarly, not all Iraqi soldiers are malevolent vicious thugs - they are people. Guys in uniform doing their jobs and hoping to survive and return to their families and children. If the USA doesn't have some good judgment in occupying Iraq, they'll find revenge becomes increasingly common. Fortunately, the people running the show have got some brains and humanity so I expect things will be okay. Especially after Saddam's era of malevolence. Anyone could run the show after that. Mqurice
