One argument is that the OPEC cartel didn't introduce a price distortion or excess profits but just got a reasonable rent for the oil resources.

Correction to my other reply. I meant Caspian Sea oil. Did the two China's oil companies made excessively high bids for stakes to the Caspian Sea oil?
