Kumar, it's ANZUS, not ANZAC [Australia New Zealand Army Corps] and ANZUS was ditched by the USA in a snit because NZ didn't want hazardous nuclear stuff in the harbours.

If NZ wanted to send nukes into Noo Yawk I think the Yanks would squeal like pigs too!

Irrespective of ANZUS, NZ was in boots and all in Afghanistan and the USA was grateful and happy to use NZ troops to help get Al Qaeda. NZ was also in to East Timor [with casualties in higher proportions than the USA has suffered in Iraq]. Also elsewhere.

The 1441 UN blah blah isn't to free Iraqis. It's to ban the Yeti and Abominable Snowman WMDs from Saddam's menagerie. If Saddam had allowed the UN to do their thing, he could have been skooshing opposition till the cows came home.

If the USA wants to help somebody, they'll get help whether they like it or not. If they don't want to help, all the pleading in the world will fall on deaf ears. That's the same for other countries too. NZ isn't helping in getting Saddam. Each does what they think is good for them at the time. They weasel out of an ANZUS if it suits and create something if it doesn't exist and 'help' is timely.
